Ghusl & Kafan

Ritual Islamic Washing & Shrouding According to the Sunnah

Ghusl & Kafan Religious Obligations

Performing Ghusl (ritual washing) and Kafan (shrouding) for a deceased Muslim (mayyit/mayyita) is a collective religious obligation (Fard Kifayah) that must be carried out with the utmost dignity, privacy, and adherence to the Prophetic Sunnah.

Once the family notifies UQBAH of a bereavement, our dedicated funeral coordinators immediately arrange the transfer of the deceased to a clean, purpose-equipped Islamic mortuary facility. Every stage of the preparation is performed by experienced, certified male volunteers for brothers and female volunteers for sisters, with close family members warmly welcomed to participate and assist.

What Our Ghusl & Kafan Service Covers

  • Dignified Private Facility: Preparation takes place in a serene, hygienic, and fully private washing room strictly observing Islamic modesty (satr al-'awrah).
  • Complete Sunnah Washing (Ghusl): Gentle ritual ablution (wudu) followed by washing an odd number of times using clean water, lotus leaves (sidr), and camphor (kafur) in the final wash.
  • Pure White Shrouding (Kafan): Provision of high-quality, unsewn pure white cotton shrouds — three sheets for men (lifafah, izar, qamis) and five pieces for women — lightly perfumed with non-alcoholic musk/attar.
  • Family Guidance & Support: Our trained team gently guides immediate family members who wish to take part in washing and shrouding their loved one.
  • Training Courses Available: We also run regular regional courses on Islamic funeral washing and shrouding, awarding a Certificate of Completion to community volunteers.
